Kardis

For Lidl’s Kardis range, we designed packaging for a wide assortment of frozen products, including traditional Greek pies (cheese pies, spinach pies), pizzas, mini pizzas, and finger foods. Our work focused on creating a modern yet authentic visual identity that communicates both the Greek culinary heritage and the convenience of ready-to-bake products.

The packaging combines appetizing food photography with a consistent design system, ensuring that the range feels unified while still allowing each product to stand out.

Brief

The brief required us to develop a packaging system for frozen Greek specialties that could appeal to both local and international consumers.

Lidl wanted the Kardis range to highlight the authenticity of Greek recipes while also positioning them as easy, tasty, and accessible solutions for everyday meals.

Clear flavor differentiation, strong shelf presence, and an attractive modern design were essential requirements.

Challenge

The challenge of this project was to balance tradition and modernity.

Greek pies and pizzas are deeply rooted in culinary culture, but they also need to appeal to today’s fast-paced consumers looking for quick, convenient meal options.

Another challenge was to manage the large variety of SKUs within the range, from large pies to small finger foods, while maintaining a cohesive brand identity across formats and packaging sizes.

As with other large-scale Lidl projects, speed and precision in managing frequent updates (recipes, nutrition tables, suppliers) were also critical

Results

The final Kardis packaging system combines appetizing, high-quality food photography with clear layouts and color coding for easy product navigation.

Each pack conveys freshness, taste, and authenticity, while also highlighting the convenience and practicality of frozen meals.

The consistent design language ensures strong shelf visibility and consumer recognition, while individual product shots make each item look inviting and delicious.

The project successfully positioned Kardis as Lidl’s go-to range for frozen Greek specialties, bridging tradition with modern consumer needs.
